John Chavez

It started with his passion for life.  But by the time John came to Golden West College, his extraordinary skills was noticeablyobvious.  The former Golden West College swimmer and water polo player had won two state championships.

Over the years, John has been on an inspirational missioncontinuing his love for the sport — despite his disability.  Earlier this year, John, who is blind, swam an amazing 250 miles for the 25th Anniversary Swim With Mike Scholarship Fund event.  This is one of many charitable activities that he truly enjoys.  “It is encouraging to be around others with disabilities while knowing that I am blessed to also be able to help others.”  John looks at his blindness as an opportunity rather than a disability.

John earned an AA degree from Golden West College and aBachelor of Science degree in Business with emphasis in Finance from California State University , San Diego .
