Meet Stephanie Dumont
Lead International Student Counselor
Stephanie’s desire to learn about places and cultures began when she was an undergraduate student at University of California at Davis studying International Relations. While travelling abroad on a student budget is often difficult, she was fortunate to visit Australia as a member of the UCD Women’s Basketball Team, and her interest in experiencing life outside of her native California grew even more. Stephanie also was passionate about helping others, and with that in mind she returned to school and earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling. She found a home at GWC in 1999, the same time International Student Program Supervisor, Janelle Leighton, started her career as a Rustler, and together they formed the beginnings of the International Student Program Team. In addition to her duties as lead international student counselor, she counsels students interested in teaching, pre-law and honors. She relishes the opportunity she has to positively influence the lives of students, and finds equal fulfillment in how much she learns from them. Her love of travel has taken her to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, France and Italy. She is an animal lover and has a Border Collie named Finn, yearns for the outdoors, particularly hiking, and cherishes time she can nestle in with a good book and a cup of tea.
