ANNOUNCEMENT

Starting Fall 2009, the minimum math requirement for all Associate of Arts degree programs will increase to the following:

  1. Completion of an Assessment Test at the Math 100 level or higher

    OR

  2. Completion of intermediate algebra (2nd year of algebra) in high school with a grade of “C” or better (high school transcripts required)

    OR

  3. Completion of GWC’s Math 030 – Intermediate Algebra or the equivalent at a regionally accredited college with a grade of “C” or better. Students applying to the GWC Nursing Program in Fall 2009 for potential Spring 2010 entry will be allowed to apply with Math 010, but will need to complete Math 030 – Intermediate Algebra prior to starting the program.

Students applying in Fall 2009 are strongly encouraged to enroll in Math 030 – Intermediate Algebra or the equivalent during the Fall 2009 term. This change will be required for ALL nursing students that apply to the GWC Nursing Program starting Spring 2010 or thereafter.

Students are encouraged to complete the intermediate algebra requirement as soon as possible to avoid any interruption in the nursing application process. Please consult with a GWC Nursing Counselor for additional information on this requirement.

BACKGROUND CHECKS:

The Joint Commission stipulates that any health care facility that requires employees to have personal criminal background checks must also require the same background check for students and volunteers involved in patient care. A valid Social Security Number (SSN) and a seven year personal history is required to conduct these background checks. Individuals without the proper documentation of a SSN to conduct the seven year background check in the United States may find they cannot qualify to complete the required clinical component of the GWC Nursing Program.

CHANGE IN APPLICATION PERIOD:

Applications for the Fall semester are accepted from January 15 – January 31.

Applications for the Spring semester are accepted from August 1 – August 15th.

Beginning the application period of Fall 2010, GWC School of Nursing will be moving to a once a year application period. Updates to follow.
